Braves won, Georgia Dawgs won, the City of Atlanta won, and over the weekend Georgia by way of natives Austin Hill and Chase Elliott swept the Alsco Uniforms 250 and Quaker State 400.
Over the past year, the Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia Bulldogs football teams won the natty in their respective sports. Last month, the City of Atlanta was selected as a host city for the world’s biggest single-sport event the 2026 World Cup.http://core360sports.com/wordpress/atlanta-fifa-world-cup-host/
Call it fate, destiny, or whatever but the title winner looks good on the people of the Peach State. Elliott and Hill raced to identical wins in identical ways for their first wins on their home racetrack.
Hill held off a strong charge from Josh Berry on the final lap in Saturday’s race. The finish was a preview of Sunday’s race. Elliott took over the lead with three laps remaining in what essentially was a three-car race (Corey LaJoie #7 Raze Energy Chevy and Ross Chastain #1 Jockey Chevy) after yet another caution flag.
The second-place finish was Chastain’s second at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) this season. In March, Chastain finished a close second behind William Byron in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. Byron followed up that win with a fifth-place finish Sunday.
