Georgia State Volleyball Dominates Morgan State in Straight Sets

Georgia State University’s volleyball team claimed their first win of the West Georgia Tourney with a decisive 3-0 win over Morgan State. The set scores—25-13, 25-14, and 26-24—tell the story of a match that was largely one-sided for the Panthers.

The Panthers took an early lead and sustained by 25 kills, compared to just four from Morgan State. Sophomore Akira Burt recorded a match-high 11 kills leading the charge for Georgia State.

The second set continued in a similar vein, with Georgia State maintaining their momentum and refusing to allow Morgan State to find their footing. The Panthers’ defense was impenetrable, and their serving game proved to be a significant weapon. Patrycja Zielinska led the team with five service aces and 23 assists.

Morgan State struggled to respond effectively to Georgia State’s relentless assault. The Bears managed to rally in the third set, pushing the Panthers to their limits. This set turned out to be the most competitive of the match, with both teams exchanging points in a thrilling back-and-forth. However, Georgia State’s experience and composure shone through as they clinched the set 26-24, sealing the match in a clean sweep.

The statistics from the match further underscore Georgia State’s dominance. The Panthers amassed 36 points, while Morgan State managed only 7. In addition to their superiority in kills and service aces, Georgia State outperformed Morgan State in assists (44 to 15) and digs (46 to 15). Kaleigh Fitzgerald was a standout on defense, leading her team with 16 digs, demonstrating the Panthers’ commitment to keeping the ball off the floor.

For Morgan State, the match was a learning experience. Despite the loss, there were moments of promise, particularly from their freshman standout Madison Grace, who led her team with four kills. Trinity Carruthers also showed potential, delivering 13 assists, but it was clear that the Bears have work to do to compete against Georgia State.
