There is nothing sweeter than being welcomed home with a homecoming victory. The Morgan State Bears welcomed thousands of alumni home Saturday with a 41-0 dismantling of the Lincoln Lions (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association).
This year’s homecoming celebration was extra special given the violence perpetrated by local hoodlums that led to the cancellation of Homecoming activities last year. Alumni make plans up to a year in advance to attend homecoming. Campus organizers went all out to make sure this year was special. Mission accomplished.
Nana Asante made the first of many big plays by Morgan players. The 6’7″ junior defensive lineman got his hands up to block Brett Jackson’s 31-yard field goal attempt.
Junior quarterback Duce Taylor wasted no time getting the Bears on the scoreboard and the fans out of their seats. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native rolled out of the pocket and flipped the ball to Andre Crawley near the 40-yard line. Crawley did the rest pivoting away from the Lions sideline, the junior wide receiver hit the jets coasting untouched into the end zone.
The Bears’ offense scored five more touchdowns in their next eight possessions.
Lincoln managed only one more visit into Morgan territory thanks to momentum created by sophomore corner Torian Clark-Stewart’s interception in the end zone. Junior quarterback Isaiah Freeman and running back Amir Gerald combined for 57 yards before the drive stalled on the Bears 23-yard line.
Next Up
The Bears get to sleep in their beds all week as they prepare to welcome Merrimack College (1-4) of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Lincoln will be hunting for their first win of the season when they return home to face the Bulldogs of Bluefield State (1-4).
