After two days of inclement weather and three days of intense competition at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility in Atlanta, Georgia, the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded, leaving spectators in awe of the remarkable performances and memorable moments that unfolded.

Judson Lincoln IV was named as the Men’s Track Most Valuable Performer.

In a historic moment for the Virginia Cavaliers, they clinched the men’s track and field championship title for the first time in the program’s history. With a total of 107 points, they edged out their in-state rivals, the Virginia Tech Hokies, by a mere 4.67 points. Notably, North Carolina secured the third position with 102 points, followed by Florida State and Miami, taking the fourth and fifth places, respectively.

On the women’s front, Duke University celebrated back-to-back victories, reaffirming their dominance in ACC women’s track and field. With an impressive tally of 133 points, they secured the championship title once again. Clemson trailed closely behind, finishing as the runner-up with 118.5 points. Notre Dame and Virginia shared the third spot, each accumulating 74 points, while Florida State claimed the fifth position with 68 points.

Individual athletes showcased outstanding performances throughout the championships, with several earning prestigious accolades. Dejaz DeFrand of Florida State stood out as the Women’s Track Most Valuable Performer, clinching gold medals in the 100-meter dash, 200 meter dash, and contributing to the 4×100-meter relay. On the men’s side, Virginia Tech’s Judson Lincoln IV emerged as the Men’s Track Most Valuable Performer, securing victories in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, among others.

Noteworthy achievements include Jeremiah Davis of Florida State winning his third consecutive Outdoor Track and Field Most Valuable Performer award, Ilse Steigenga of Pitt being named the Women’s Field Most Valuable Performer, and Jayden Ulrich of Louisville setting a record in the discus throw.

Among the exhilarating events, Duke’s women’s 4×100-meter relay team clinched their first-ever ACC title, while Virginia’s Margot Appleton defended her title in the women’s 1,500-meter run. Moreover, meet records continued to tumble, with notable performances by athletes like North Carolina’s Ethan Strand and Notre Dame’s Olivia Markezich.

The championships concluded on a high note with a heartwarming moment as Virginia Tech’s 4×400-meter relay team, led by Judson Lincoln IV, gave long-time head coach Dave Cianelli’s a win to take into retirement.
