Morehouse and neighboring Clark Atlanta took top billing in the men’s and women’s competition at the 2025 Morehouse Relays over the weekend.
Nine colleges and a host of high schools and middle schools participated in the three-day event at Edwin Moses Track.
The Lady Panthers (189 points) did it with numbers, mostly in the field. In addition to winning the hammer throw, heptathlon, discus, and 4 x 200 m relay, CAU placed at least one athlete in the Top 5 in 14 events and two or more in seven events. Five athletes, including the winner Jayme Redmond, claimed five of the six spots in the hammer throw. Anniyah Williams and Jayla Kennedy finished second and third behind the Tennessee State Tigerbelles’ Serenity Harry.
Harry was a points magnet for the Tigerbelles. The junior collected 18 individual points with a first and second place finish in the women’s 200 m and 100 m dashes and another 18 points as the anchor on the second place 4×100 relay team and first place finish on the 4×400 m relay team.
Morehouse (181.5 points) scored points everywhere. Sophomore Michael Simmons, Jr. finished fourth in the 200 m, first in the 400 meters, and anchored the winning 4×400 m relay team. In the distance events, the Maroon Tigers won the 4×800 m relay, the distance medley relay, the 3,000 m steeplechase, the 1500 m run, and the 10,000 m run. Sophomore Jeremiah Alibey contributed another 10 points for his first-place finish in the 400 m hurdles. Logan McCormick and Camren Clayborn won the high jump and discus. Morehouse had multiple athletes scoring points in 12 events.
Albany State’s Kibren Moore was the only sprinter to double up on the track, winning the men’s 100 m and 200 m dashes. The junior also helped the Golden Rams 4×100 m relay team to victory.
Brothers Jaylen and Jayden Burris (Vorhees College) finished 1-2 in the men’s triple jump and 3-2 in the long jump.
Albany State senior Nathalia Rowe was the only female competitor to double on the track, and she did it the hard way. Rowe won the brutal double – the open 400 m and the 400 m hurdles.
