Top-seeded Southern University grabbed an early lead and never looked back knocking off Mississippi Valley 63-43 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Wednesday night in College Park, GA.
Valley was unable to frustrate the Lady Jags backcourt. Jaylin Reed scored a game-high 15 points for the Devilettes and Jaeda Murphy added 10. The Lady Jags held Maxey and Prackett to a combined 12 points.
Southern scored 21 points off 25 turnovers while dominating the paint. The Lady Jags doubled the Devilettes’ output in the paint, turning 21 offensive rebounds into 16 points.
The foursome of Aniya Gourdine, DaKiyah Sanders, Soniyah Reed and Jocelyn Tate matched the effort from Valley. Reed came off the bench to match Goudine’s 13 points. Sanders and Tate each dropped 10 points to help the Lady Jags advance to the semifinals.
