The PUMA American Track League is hosting the Edwin Moses Legends Meet for track and field fans of all ages on Friday, May 31, at Edwin Moses Track on the campus of Morehouse College. The event promises a stellar lineup of track and field athletes and legends for fan interaction, autograph signings from some of the sport’s top legends, and exciting competition.
Edwin Moses, the meet’s namesake and a track and field legend, will be in attendance. Moses is renowned for his dominance in the 400-meter hurdles, winning gold at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics and achieving an unmatched streak of 107 consecutive finals victories between 1977 and 1987. He also set the world record in the event four times. Beyond his athletic achievements, Moses played a crucial role in reforming Olympic eligibility and drug testing. He was appointed the first Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000. The organization unites elite athletes for community service.
Joining Moses is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion in the 400-meter hurdles, where she set an Olympic record and won gold in the 4×400-meter relay. In 2022, she broke the world record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.68 seconds, becoming the first woman to run the distance in under 52 and 51 seconds. Fresh off a personal best of 22.07 seconds in the 200 meters at the L.A. Grand Prix, McLaughlin-Levrone will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet.
Matthew Boling, a standout from the University of Georgia and NCAA champion in multiple events, is also slated to appear. Boling has clinched U20 titles in the 100 and 200 meters and was part of the gold-winning 4×400 meters relay team at the World Relays in Nassau. He will compete in the men’s 100 and 200 meters.
Middle-distance runner Angel Piccirillo, a multiple-time NCAA Division I All-American, will compete in the women’s 1500 meters. Piccirillo is noted for her strong performances across various middle-distance events.
World Championships qualifier Khallifah Rosser will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Rosser finished third at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earned a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2022 NACAC Championships, and was part of the gold medal-winning 4×400-meter relay team.
Atlanta is home to a lot of former track and field Olympians and a Winter Games medalist who ran track at Lithia Springs High School. A few of the legends are expected to be in attendance include Dwight Phillips, Gail Devers, Angelo Taylor, Gwen Torrance, Allen Johnson, Terrence Trammell, and Veronica VCB Brown (JAM).
