Around the Peach – Week 12

What a week of football in the ole Peach State!!!! Savannah State, who didn’t win their first game until the eighth game of the season finished with a commanding win over South Carolina State. The Orange Tigers finished the season on a positive note winning three of their last four games. What can be said about the Berry Vikings? They finished the season undefeated for the first time in the program’s short history and then in their first appearance in the D3 Playoffs, they beat Concordia (MI).  Over in Waleska, Reinhardt continued their winning ways with a first-round win in the NAIA Playoffs.  Last year, the Eagles made it as far as the quarterfinals before bowing out.  Kennesaw State added to the list of firsts as the Owls won their first conference championship in the Big South.  The state went 7-2 against teams outside its borders.

So far the tally is as follows:

  • Georgia and Fort Valley State qualified for their respective conference championship game.
  • Berry, Reinhardt, and Kennesaw State won their respective conference championship.
  • Georgia State and Georgia are Bowl eligible
  • West Georgia, Berry, Reinhardt, and Kennesaw State are in the playoffs for their respective level of intercollegiate play.

**Georgia Tech can qualify for a post-season bowl with a win over Georgia in the regular season finale for both programs.
